DEMON HUNTERS | MAELSTROM | Development Project

This character project is currently undergoing a total remake. After 5 months, the first version did not hold up to my current artistic quality and capabilities and this was a good time to start what I was going to do anyway with a remake.

All aspects of this project are entirely self-taught.

This Character is part of my Master's thesis for SMU Guildhall. The requirements for my thesis involves concepting a charcter using Cyber-Western aesthetics, creating the character in a realistic version, and turning that realistic version into a stylized cartoon version. For the Stylized version, I've chosen to replicate the Netflix Castlevania style in 2D and 3D.

Maelstrom is a young, nonbinary adult in their mid-twenties who has a crass and often loud personality to accompany their equally rough and tumble appearance. They have teal hair with cyan and dark blue streaks at random. They glean pleasure from chaos and like to play by their own rules. They fight dirty, and aren't ashamed of it.

As a Demon Hunter, Maelstrom benefits from their MORPH-mutated ability of audiokinesis (the ability to control & manipulate sound) as their primary means of combat. They carry dual-wield pistols in holsters they wear around their thighs, as a precaution.
